FreeBitcoins is a digital currency company headquartered in Dover, Delaware. FreeBitcoins.com was registered on December 16, 2010 when Bitcoin was far less than $1 USD apiece! In fact, FreeBitcoins.com was registered before Bitstamp, Coinbase, Gemini, and LocalBitcoins!

Our goal is to create a website that is as entertaining and useful for a 2010 Cryptocurrency user as the site is for a brand new user who just heard of Bitcoin five minutes ago.

FreeBitcoins supports Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Bitcoin SV, Clamcoin, Dashcoin, Dogecoin, Digibyte, Ethereum, Litecoin, Mazacoin, Monero, & Namecoin.

History

FreeBitcoins.com was originally registered on December 16, 2010. There appears to have been several different owners until FreeBitcoins.com was finally acquired by Steven Steiner in late 2015 for an undisclosed amount.

FreeBitcoins version 1.0 was owned and operated by Steiner & Tyler Willis (AKA Kef). Version 1.0 offered a Clamcoin faucet that used the blockchain and a digging tool that automatically scanned, harvested, and liquidated hidden altcoins on Bitcoin private keys. Willis decided in 2018 to leave the company and get a grownup job within the more formal and traditional financial industry. Willis and Steiner dissolved their partnership and remain, friends, today. (This paragraph as approved by Mr. Willis.)

FreeBitcoins version 2.0 began basically immediately after 1.0 ended. Steiner linked up with Scott Llewellyn in an effort to find an employee rather than a partnership. Llewellyn was the first employee of FreeBitcoins.com and has since worked his way into a partnership position.

Version 2.0's focus was on becoming self-reliant.

We knew that having a safe and trustworthy altcoin exchange was a key factor in our business. After watching Poloniex abuse their users, lose their funds multiple times, and ultimately get hacked for 1800 BTC by someone presumably in the Clamcoin community... we decided it was time to create our own exchange. Building an exchange is an extremely complicated thing to do for the largest companies... let alone two buttsniffers with a dream! It was decided the company would focus on the fastest ways to generate revenue and then swing back around to creating the exchange.
